Procurement, Logistics and Supply Chain Management

Procurement Facilitation

Increasing number of trade channel members, processors, institutional consumers and marketing organizations are establishing direct supply base. Many models of contract and collaborative farming are presently being pursued.

Tools have been developed to facilitate direct procurement by the contracting agencies from the farmers.

Storage and Warehousing

For very long, except for few commodities (i.e. wheat, rice, sugar, etc.) most of the non-perishable agri-products are generally stored by trade channel players under their own ownership and in their own go-downs. The third party storage and warehousing infrastructure is just beginning to being built.

Many tools have been developed to ensure efficient management of storage and warehousing operations.

Transport

Most of the transport operations are generally managed by the sellers of the goods. Since most transactions involve very small quantities, only small players are engaged in handling and transport of agri-products. With the entry of large private sector players in agri-trade, this situation is likely to go many changes.

IT tools have been developed for efficient management of transport operations both for bulk movement as well as for small quantities & distributed movement of agri-produce.

Documentation

Presently, a small proportion of trade transactions are actually documented. Most of the formal documentation is affected by the multiplicity of agencies and rules & regulations governing agricultural trade.

An online documentation management platform is being created to facilitate and manage trade documentation.
