Increasing awareness and changing attitude at consumer level has now generated demand for better quality farm produce. This can be delivered only if, right from the production stage itself, quality is given its due importance. IT can be utilized for creating quality awareness at farm level itself.

Tools have been developed to evaluate the quality of farm produce at different stages of production.

With quality gaining increasing importance, the trade is soon expected to accept quality characterization as one of the basis for their trade decisions. Tools have been developed to characterize each lot of produce brought by the producers for sale in the market yards. Once this characterization is done at first level of trade, the same can continue across the entire trade channel.

Presently, most of the trade being based on average quality criteria, when shifts towards quality characteristics based criteria, the claims for quality would need to be verified. Physical verifications are very-very expensive.

IT based tools have been developed to assist the trade channel players and to facilitate this transformation.
